"You can always fill a cup of filtered water from your fridge, IF it has that feature. And IF your electrical power is on.
But if you want to fill more than a cup, and faster, and even during a power outage, then you NEED some water filtering system near your sink.
I am very happy with mine, and that's precisely why I reorder a PB1 cartridge replacement every year.
Clean air and water - that's the first priority, is it not? :)"
